Artist Bio

“It is my ongoing goal as a stone artist to achieve a finite balance between presenting the nature of the subject matter with the nature of the stone itself.”

-Nick Czukar

Initially self-taught on hand carving small soapstone pieces, Nick has been sculpting stone for over a decade. His portfolio includes a multitude of different stones ranging from soft soapstone to hard quartzite. The process often involves heavy grinding with diamond equipped power tools and then finished by hand sanding. Currently based in Golden, British Columbia, the bulk of Nick’s recent work utilizes locally sourced stone.

After 10+ years of specializing in wildlife sculpture, Nick has recently switched focus towards smaller and more intricate stone skull carvings. These follow the same basic approach as his larger wildlife works while opening the door to many more stone options that may not necessarily be available at a larger size. This switch into smaller material has also yielded many pendant carvings and other wearable pieces (new page coming soon). In 2026 Nick plans on taking his skull carvings further by upping the scale to that of his traditional wildlife sculptures.

Zoocar Arts is the branding of Nick’s sculpture work, ‘Zoocar’ being the anglicized pronunciation of his Hungarian surname Czukar. This doubles as a pun towards the predominately animal-based subject matter of his work. Outside of stone carving, Nick works in adventure tourism and can often be found in the alpine hiking, climbing or skiing.
